어느 한 버스 정류장 근처. 무참하게 살해 된 여인이 발견되고, 경찰은 유력 용의자로 그녀의 남편 킴벨(에디 마산)을 지목하게 된다. 하지만 명확한 알리바이가 있었던 그에게 경찰(빈센트 카세이저)은 별다른 혐의점을 찾아내지 못하고, 수사는 제자리를 멤돌게 된다. 한편 자유기고가인 월터(패트릭 윌슨)는 신문에서 해당사건을 접하게 되고, 본능적으로 킴벨이 범인이라는 것을 직감하게 된다. 그리고 킴벨의 뒤를 케는 월터의 모습. 하지만 월터에게는 정신병을 앓고 있는 아내(제시카 비엘)가 있었고, 어느 날 파티에서 남편이 어리고 예쁜 엘리(헤일리 베넷)와 함께 있는 것을 본 후 남편과 그녀의 사이를 의심하게 된다. 아내를 죽인자. 그리고 아내가 죽기를 바라는 자.
